Dear Mr. Harper,
Please find attached a questionnaire which is being co-sponsored by Greenpeace and Sierra Club Canada. The need for action on the environment has never been greater, and in 14 months the world will be watching Canada once again in Copenhagen. Many have called this the Climate Crisis election. Further, the current economic crisis gripping the U.S. and unfolding globally will only be exacerbated by a failure to take action on the environment as the two are inextricably intertwined.
The attached questionnaire focuses on climate change and some of the most pressing issues facing our country today. The purpose of the questionnaire is two-fold: firstly, to act as a service to the general public in providing guidance and information about where the parties stand on key issues, and secondly, to obtain direct position statements from each Party to help us better understand your vision for the environment.
As we receive each Party’s response, we will publish the answers verbatim on the Greenpeace website at www.greenpeace.ca and at Sierra Club Canada’s website www.sierraclub.ca. We would ask that you strictly adhere to a 300 word limit on your comments, as answers will be cut off at that limit. We will not undertake editing or grading your responses, but will allow the answers to speak for themselves. We invite you to provide your answers in both English and French, using both versions of the survey. This will ensure that your answers are accurately reported in both languages.
